Each year over 12,000 women in Australia and New Zealand are diagnosed with and affected by breast cancer, changing their lives forever. With no known cure, this cancer is life-threatening and emotionally draining, reducing the hope and good spirit that is inherent in us all. The National Breast Cancer Foundation is unique in its research funding as it is the only community organisation that awards funds specifically for research across the continuum of breast cancer - from genetics to treatment, to support and palliative care. These funds are generated from the positive attitude of our national community.


Danish jewellery brand PANDORA aims to inspire and be inspired by women who want to tell their own unique story, and sometimes, this encompasses the effects of breast cancer. One of our designers, Lone Frandsen, has created a pink ribbon bead in support of the fight against breast cancer, and for each piece sold, 15% of the retail sale is donated to the national foundation. The first bead is created from solid 14 carat gold and decorated with beautiful pink sapphires, while the second is hand crafted in sterling silver with pink zirconias, each charming and strongly supportive. Designer, Lone Frandsen, says that in designing the two beads she wanted to create something that was "simple, feminine, and that every woman recognised."


During the year 2007, PANDORA successfully raised $70,762 for the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation and a further $26,194.71 to be presented to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. PANDORA’s Australian Director, Karin Adcock, says "...this is such a worthy cause and PANDORA is fully committed in it’s support of the on-going fight against Breast cancer."


For 2008, PANDORA hopes to reach new heights in its awareness efforts, raising more much needed funds for such a worthy and relevant cause in modern society. The two beads are sold nationally all year round, available from PANDORA stores and leading jewellers, with a price of $304 (gold & pink sapphires), and $56 (silver & pink zirconia).
